Description
งูขอนท้องขาว.
Xenodermus javanicus.
The aptly named Dragon Snake looks like something that crawled out right of a wyvern's nest; with scales that are not smooth and even but surrounded by rows of enlarged, somewhat hump-like scales, giving it the impression of an armoured dragon skin (and with its dark grey/black colours and ridged scales, it also kind of resembles a xenomorph alien). In Thailand, this species is restricted to the extreme South and is overall a very rare considered serpent.
This nonvenomous snake shows an unusual yet interesting behaviour when touched or feeling harrassed: Instead of biting or fleeing, the Dragon Snake may stiffen up instead, turning the body as hard and stiff as a board or stick.

Although its popularity in the pet trade has increased within the last few years, it does do very poor in captivity. Their scientific name derives from the Greek "xeno", meaning alien and "dermos", meaning scale, referring to the strange look of their scales.
